The webbook with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed has been available in-store for a few weeks now, but finally, in a very low-key way the Ubuntu models are creeping onto the Carphone Warehouse website. The home page still links to the last remaining XP models (they are not kidding when they say “while stocks last” they can’t have many of these ones left) however, if you look past the home page, in the Mobile Broadband section then scroll down past the XP version and look at the top 10 offers you will see the first two are for the webbook “with Linux system” on T-Mobile and 3 (leave the Orange one for a few days, that is still XP). Hardly a strong sell, but there it is. I am told there will be product images and they will even admit it is Ubuntu linux soon.
The T-Mobile deal looks excellent to me. Unlimited bandwidth (there is a fair use policy of 3GB per month, this does not mean they stop you at 3GB, it just means they reserve the right to throttle you down to a slower speed if you go beyond 3GB and if they can be bothered) and just 25 quid a month.
If you have been thinking about getting a mobile broadband dongle now is the time to get one along with a fantastic little laptop.

How do i get it working on wader then? The message that comes up is saying web page address may be wrong, or something about the DNS or a firewall. there had been a message about wader requiring restarting after an update, but nothing happened, and the dongle still didn’t work.
Hi every1. I am trying to help my sister. She has the same ubuntu webbook as part of her t-mobile deal. She is not very clued up about computers & has been accessing the internet, & she hasn’t got internet security. The webbook is slowing down. Thinking it was malware/virus; I downloaded malwarebytes anti malware, however I cannot seem to open it to run the programme. Can anybody tell me why this is?
I also tried to clean the webbook back to its default settings, however I do not know how to…..anyone?
Hello again. I’ve just deleted all the downloads & then deleted them from the recycling bin. It seems too be working a bit better, however I still cannot open the anti-malware programme…? Help
I think I might sound silly here but does the webbook have enough memory to hold this programme?
@christian it isn’t malware or virus, Ubuntu doesn’t really have the same problems Windows has. The webbook isn’t the most powerful of computers, it just has a via 1.6ghz single core processor and 512MB ram. Don’t attempt to install windows anti-malware software, it isn’t going to do anything useful and probably won’t work. Check out the Ubuntu forums or IRC channels if you want to know more about Ubuntu.
